I take my equipment very seriously. More seriously, in fact, than some hire companies do. This is partially due to the fact that I’m the one who looks stupid in front of client if things go wrong, but mostly because I’m passionate about it. I’m a firm believer in properly-specified systems. If you understand the nuts and bolts of how the systems work, you can engineer them to work for you not against you. As such, my pro-tools rigs are always up to the job and change with the times. They are configured to my spec and contain all the goodies I need to work swiftly and creatively. |

During the filming of Mamma Mia! in 2007, we were able to spec mobile playback rigs to a high standard. During the studio stages one of my Pro-Tools HD2s was used on-set at Pinewood, mains powered but able to run on UPS batteries for 45 minutes should the sparks pull our feed without warning! On location in the Greek Islands we had a pair of LE rigs, one with a Digidesign 003 and one with an mbox, both pelicased and able to run from Batteries with power invertors. This allowed us to be as mobile with 3 people as the camera department were with 15. And more importantly, we were as flexible with the editing on the side of the mountain as we were in the cutting room. All my kit is flightcased and ready to go anywhere I have to. I also carry out location and studio recording so my gear is spec'ed to withstand the rigours of the road.
